Who We Are

Mobile Museum of Art (MMoA)

The Mobile Museum of Art is a vibrant cultural hub and a vital educational resource for the Gulf Coast. Our mission is to bring people together and inspire creativity through the power of art, supported by a unique public-private partnership of city and community support.

Our Collection & Impact As a volunteer, you’ll be part of an institution that houses a permanent collection of more than 6,600 works of fine and decorative arts. Our galleries span from classical antiquity to the present day, featuring masterworks from America, Asia, and Europe. This vast collection serves as the foundation for everything we do—from our Free Thursdays program to our city-wide festivals.

The Volunteer Experience Volunteering at MMoA offers a rare behind-the-scenes look at how a major cultural institution breathes life into the community. Whether you are a retired educator, a student, or an art enthusiast, you will find a home here. Our volunteers are the creative mentors in our youth art camps, the welcoming hosts of our outreach events, and the friendly faces who help our 6,600+ works of art connect with visitors of all ages.

By joining our team, you help ensure that MMoA remains a source of inspiration, education, and connection for every resident of Mobile.

What We Do

The Mobile Museum of Art (MMoA) provides a wide array of public programs and community initiatives that would not be possible without the dedicated support of our volunteers. By providing hands-on service, volunteers play a vital role in furthering the Museum’s mission while deepening their own connection to the arts.

Volunteers significantly enhance several core aspects of the Museum, including:

  • Access & Community Days: Supporting recurring programs like Free Thursdays for Mobile County residents and seasonal Family Days that welcome the entire community.

  • Youth & Art Education: Assisting with Summer Art Camps, after-school workshops, and interdisciplinary initiatives that integrate art with science and technology.

  • Tours & Interpretation: Facilitating guided school tours and walk-in gallery experiences to help visitors of all ages engage with our permanent collection.

  • Public Events & Outreach: Helping staff with "Art After Dark" evening socials, local festivals, and collaborative city-wide events.

  • Special Exhibitions: Enhancing the visitor experience during high-profile rotating exhibitions throughout the year.

The generous gift of time from our valued volunteers ensures that MMoA remains a vibrant, accessible, and inspiring cultural hub for all.
