Who We Are
Operating annually since 1983, the Mobile International Festival is a volunteer member, non-profit organization, and has become the longest running festival on the Gulf Coast. We believe our success can be attributed to, in part, our dedication to educating students and the general public about the immense diversity that exists in our community, city, state, and country.
The festival provides the atmosphere of world travel, giving the opportunities to meet people from over 70 countries face-to-face, speak different languages, sample some delicious food, learn geography, history, art, social studies, music, science, and, above all, be inspired by our beautiful world and its people. The most important aspect of the Mobile International Festival is our ability to allow students to experience and learn about social acceptance, cultural differences, and unity. It is a place where we celebrate our differences and rejoice in our unity; it is a place where all belong and our differences are celebrated.
What We Do
The Mobile International Festival is an annual event celebrating the cultures of the world that come together in our home city of Mobile, Alabama. Every November, people from all around the world come together at the Grounds in Mobile to interact with the many cultures of our members, including tasting their foods, learning about their native languages, seeing their fashion, and hearing their music. The Festival's primary demographic is children, with entire schools coming as field trips every year, but it is open to the public on certain days for anyone interested in culture!
The Festival is the organization's biggest event, but our members play an active community role year-round through participation in a number and variety of events. From holiday parades, to press conferences, to sporting events, to classrooms, libraries, and translation assistance. We proudly maintain a positive and prominent presence in our community.
As far as volunteer opportunities go, we will post needs for the annual Festival closer to November, but we may have some smaller, one-time needs throughout the year. If you would like to be notified of these one-time needs when they are posted, or if you would like to be notified when we start posting needs for the annual Festival, become a Fan of our agency here!
