Community Lunch is a weekly meal provided free of charge to the families we serve and allows us to stay connected with and minister to the adults in our community. We begin serving at noon and typically serve approximately 60-80 individuals. We are usually finished serving by 12:45pm. Volunteers generally arrive around 11:30 to set up and once they are done serving the meal, many enjoy sitting and eating with our folks and even praying with them. We serve a meal to 55+ middle and high school students each Wednesday evening as part of our Teen Night Bible study! These meals are all generously sponsored or provided by local families, churches, schools, civic organizations, and businesses! Monday Movers help us pick up thrift store donations for our thrift store - Dwell Goods! We need volunteers every Monday beginning at 11am. Larger vehicles, trucks, and trailers for pick-ups are most helpful, but not required. We are most in need of hands to help move and organize! Volunteers can expect to serve a few hours until early afternoon.

Our veteran patients that are currently on Hospice enjoy the camaraderie and the bond that only those with military histories share and pay tribute to others who have served our county.  These volunteers may provide social visits, take part in special pinning ceremonies, or interview and document veterans military stories through the veterans history project.  These visits would be made in the patients homes in Mobile County.       

At the end of life, comfort  is one of our top goals in our Hospice organization. If you enjoy creating art work, painting, sewing, knitting, crocheting, etc. you can help provide comfort to our patients and families! Join us as we come together and create arts and crafts projects together, share fellowship, and hand out these projects once complete to our patients and families. Any items like blankets (or fidget blankets), paintings, any art work or arts & crafts, cards, home/room decor, etc. can be made as we share time together and let our skills and imagination turn into beautiful gifts for our patients! This club will help our house by providing freezer ready meals which will be warmed and served to our families as needed when restaurant catered meals are not available.

RMHC of Mobile relies upon donations of household items and supplies to provide the comforts of home to our families in our 38 guestroom Home and our two Family Rooms located inside USA Children’s & Women’s Hospital. Your donations help make their stay more comfortable so they can care for their hospitalized child.

Next time you are out shopping for items for your own home, we would be grateful if you picked up a few things for us, too. You can also host a donation drive for “The House That Love Built” and collect wish list items at your office, church, school or with a community group. Responsibilities to include answering phone calls and directing callers to the correct guest room or staff member, answering the doorbell (our house is under a secure system for entry), checking to make sure that anyone entering our house has the correct wrist band upon entry and if not, directing them to the house manager for information regarding how to become a guest.  Light clerical work during slow periods and assisting staff with small projects such as addressing and mailing envelopes or stuffing our "goodie bags" to be given to our new families upon check-in.

Do you enjoy quiet, focused tasks that make a big impact behind the scenes? We're looking for a detail-oriented volunteer to help us enter registrations for Dolly Parton's Imagination Library, a program that delivers free books to children from birth to age five, right here in our community.

What You’ll Do: Twice a month, you'll spend a few hours entering new child registrations into our online system. It may not be glamorous, but your work ensures local children receive a brand-new, age-appropriate book in the mail each month—often the very first books they’ll ever own.

Why It Matters: Early exposure to books is one of the strongest predictors of a child’s future academic success. By volunteering your time, you’ll help foster a lifelong love of reading and learning for hundreds of children across Southwest Alabama.

Time Commitment and Skills Needed: Approximately 2 times per month, with flexible scheduling during business hours. You'll need basic computer skills, attention to detail, and a passion for giving kids a strong start in life.

Hunger is a real problem; you can work to end it by volunteering as a Food Sorting Volunteer with Feeding the Gulf Coast! 

Feeding the Gulf Coast seeks Food Sorting Volunteers to help inspect and sort food donations, preparing them for distribution to those in need. This includes checking expiration dates, making sure cans are not rusty or missing labels, and boxing similar items together to put on our shelves for our partner organizations to stock their pantries. This project requires you to engage in light to moderate physical activity.

A Guardianship is a legal relationship in which a Guardian is appointed by Mobile County Probate Court to make decisions for those incapacitated or unable to communicate decisions concerning their health or safety. The guardian does not handle any financial responsibilities. A Conservator is appointed by the court to handle these matters.

The Volunteer Guardian Program (VGP) is the last line of defense for vulnerable citizens - with no appropriate family or friends - against homelessness and worsening quality of life.  The VGP is administered by the Via Health, Fitness and Enrichment Center, and partners with the Mobile County Probate Court, the Mobile County Commission, the City of Mobile and community referral agencies.  Mobile County’s VGP was introduced by Probate Court Judge Don Davis in 2010, and the program remains the first and only of its kind in our state. 

The life-changing decisions Volunteer Guardians make for their wards impact basic needs (food and housing), medical treatments or care and end-of-life care.  Guardians attend court hearings, file paperwork, coordinate with other agencies to obtain needed services, shop or take  their ward shopping,  attend doctors’ appointments if needed and stay connected to ensure wards’ health and safety.

Since 2010, VGP has recruited, trained and matched hundreds of community volunteers to serve as Guardians for these special people. Currently, there are more than 65 amazing Volunteer Guardians active in the program.  They range in age from 21 to 65, and include college students, homemakers, nurses, pastors and preachers, Certified Nursing Assistants, social workers and even a retired FBI official. 

The Via Center is seeking caring and committed volunteers to become a part of the program.

What does it take to be a Volunteer Guardian?

We know that natural disasters happen, and it's not a matter of if they'll happen, but when they'll happen. And when they do happen, volunteers are needed in a hurry.

We are looking for volunteers with gardening experience who would be willing to share their time and talent with our Home. We have several beautiful gardens for our Residents and visitors to enjoy, and would be most grateful for help in maintaining them. Schedule and time commitment is flexible. 

Friendly callers needed to check on our local communities homebound and shut-in seniors.  With Circle of Friends, volunteers provide companionship and social contact to local seniors through weekly phone calls.  A simple call can make the difference in the life of a lonely senior!  Orientation and training provided.  Great opportunity for service, small group and church group projects.  Excellent soft skill experience for anyone!   

We are in need of dining room volunteers to assist in serving our elderly Residents breakfast and aid in clearing tables afterward. Meals in our dining room are served restaurant style. Breakfast is from 7:45 a.m. - 9 a.m. As a dining room volunteer, you'll enjoy getting to know our wonderful Residents while helping them in a meaningful way. 

Currently we are looking for volunteers on Thursday or Friday morning.

Dining volunteers are provided aprons and hairnets.

Are you looking to make a difference for a local homeowner? Rebuilding Together of South Alabama (RTSOAL) is looking for volunteers or groups to assistance with service days. Tasks may include painting, cleaning, lawn maintenance, gardening or planting flowers at an upcoming community revitalization project.

Projects are scheduled on an "as-needed" basis and typically occur in spring, fall, and winter.

Brighten A Day Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to fighting isolation and spreading joy, invites you to help brighten the lives of retirement home residents. Many seniors experience loneliness and isolation, and your thoughtful cards or letters can bring a much-needed smile to their faces.

Volunteer Needs: Volunteers are needed to lead life skills classes, wellness education, exercise classes, recreation/games, arts and crafts and basic computer classes for seniors. (Only individuals or professionals with experience in a related field or experience are asked to lead a life skills class.)

Triage Assistant Internships/Volunteers

Escort patients to and from the lobby area. Take vitals, complete medical history forms & update medical chart, etc. Determine the reason for the visit and prepare the patient to see the Doctor. Other duties include cleaning patients' rooms, stocking them, and preparing them for the next patient. Assist medical team as needed.

Attire: Solid Color Scrubs and closed-toed shoes

Triage volunteers work as a part of a team of 3 other triage assistants. Students' placement is based on their availability to volunteer 7:30 am - 12 pm or 1:00 pm - 5:00 pm and open shifts. (Commitment: One 4-hour shift once per week for the entire semester)

Shift AM: 7:30 am - 12:00 pm Monday - Friday

Shift PM 1:00 - 5:00 pm Monday - Thursday

If you or someone you love has been diagnosed with cancer, deciding what’s next can be overwhelming. ACS CARES™ (Community Access to Resources, Education, and Support) is a multi-channel program designed to provide non-clinical navigation support to cancer patients and caregivers. Through in-person student volunteers and virtual community volunteers, CARES volunteers equip those facing cancer with curated content, programs, and services to fit their specific cancer journey.

College/graduate students volunteer at USA Mitchell Cancer Institute to provide people with cancer and caregivers with empathetic, culturally sensitive and inclusive non-clinical navigation support throughout the cancer journey.

We are in need of donations of homemade candy or prepackaged candy. These items will be sold at our annual Lawn party on October 20th. The Little Sisters of the Poor is a nursing home that serves the elderly poor in Mobile.

All doantions can be dropped off at our reception desk the week of October 14th.

Support services for Mobile seniors by volunteering at Via! Health, Fitness and Enrichment. We have lots of different projects we need help with, including clerical and administrative tasks, gardening/weeding flower beds, lawn care, supply sorting and organization, facilities clean-up, and other special projects. 

Volunteers are always welcome, and we're happy to set up a time for you to volunteer that works around your schedule. 

We are in need of a volunteer to help organize a shed with paper products. The person would be throwing away anything damaged and organizing the rest.

Mulherin Home is looking for musicians of all experience levels to volunteer their time and play for our clients. Individuals with developmental disabilities typically LOVE music, and music therapy is so important to their well being. We have indoor & covered outdoor spaces perfect for set up. Our clients love ALL types of music, from Blue Grass to Jazz, Classical, Rock, Folk, Gospel, Dance & Hip Hop and everything in between. Are you a future teacher, college student or high school student who has a love for History, Astronomy, Zoology, Foreign Languages, Art, Drama, etc.? Do you love to share your knowledge or interests with others perhaps in a small classroom type setting? We have several residents at Mulherin Home who LOVE to learn! We are looking for volunteers to teach classes on various subjects. These are adults with special needs so there is no grading, just learning! Get volunteer hours while talking about your favorite subjects! Classes can be anywhere from 30 mins to over an hour, and can repeat or be a one time "workshop." 

You do not have to be a student to volunteer, and you do not have to be a professional in whatever subject you want to teach. You will have access to a large screen TV if you need to cast photos or videos. Most of them can not read, but they remember and love showing off what they have learned!

We accept volunteers seven days a week 9am to 5:30pm.

We have approximately 10-15 residents who are ready for classes to start!

This is an excellent way to earn a letter of recommendation for college admission or for a job!

We are always on the lookout for volunteers. We welcome any age as long as children are accompanied by an adult. We have 30 residents with a wide range of abilities. You can be paired with an individual or a small group with similar abilities for a larger activity. We accept volunteers seven days a week from 9am to 5:30pm. We are looking for weekly volunteers who would like to help put clean sheets and blankets on our Residents' beds on Wednesday mornings from 8:15 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. A training will be provided, and we ask that volunteers commit to helping weekly or every other week.

Mobile Japanese Garden is a public place with 16 acres of natural gardens and trails, and we need your help beautifying the space during the week and on the weekend. Help us get the garden ready for pictures and school field trips.

Schedule anytime around your studies and work schedules. You pick your volunteer hours. Then contact us with particular dates and times that work with your schedule. Don is here almost every day to assist, and we'll work together as a team.

Our veteran patients that are currently on Hospice enjoy the camaraderie and the bond that only those with military histories share and pay tribute to others who have served our county. Here at Springhill Hospice we like to honor our veterans year round. These volunteers may provide social visits and share memories together and provide a listening ear to someone who understands. These volunteers may also document veterans military stories through the veterans history project. We also do a pinning ceremony for our veterans closer to Veterans Day and we like our veteran volunteers to take part in these ceremonies as well. If you would like to provide a lasting impact on our veterans patients and loved ones, please consider joining us!

Volunteers are requested to assist our Activity Department in providing manicures to residents. This includes taking off nail polish, clipping nails, and painting nails. Volunteers are needed on Tuesdays at 10:00am and 2pm.

Other events are trips to Walmart, Dollar Tree, etc. You would accompany our Activity Department and assist a resident during the outing. This volunteer would need to schedule an orientation to be a volunteer at the Little Sisters of the Poor. Ozanam Charitable Pharmacy needs assistance with social media marketing and production of a new promotional video featuring our facility, and the importance of our free medication safety net benefitting more than 1464 uninsured patients living in Mobile, Baldwin, Escambia and Washington counties. The video will also feature testimonials from patients, volunteers, and donors about how supporting Alabama's ONLY licensed charitable pharmacy significantly impacts the lives and productivity of the working poor, homeless individuals, and senior citizens in our service areas. A social media recording kit and Apple computer tablets are available on site. This intern will work with the Marketing and Development Manager.

Are you a CleanTok junkie? Do you get giddy over organized spaces? We are seeking dedicated volunteers just like you to assist with resetting rooms at our emergency family shelter. The sooner rooms are cleaned, the sooner another family in need can be offered the safety of shelter. Move-outs occur at various times so some flexibility is a plus. Individuals are welcome, but this is also a great activity for groups of 2-3. Your key responsibilities will be:

Friendly Callers Needed!

At First Light Community of Mobile, we have six houses for our core members to live in. Because we put so much time into taking care of our core members and providing them the best life possible, we don't always have time to take care of the exterior of our houses. We are looking for volunteers to help with gardening and landscaping at our different properties to help maintain the integrity of our homes. 

Supporters of the Mobile SPCA donate aluminum cans to us that we recycle for funds to help our mission. We need one or two people at a time to come by to crush cans and then bag them up. We have the can crushing equipment and a spot in the warehouse with a big fan. Please come by to crush cans anytime we are open. Donate whatever time you can.

ECI/The Arc of Southwest Alabama is in search of volunteers for our Special Olympics program. Our agency participates in the Washington County and the state Special Olympics programs each year. Our athletes compete in Track & Field, Bocce, Golf and Powerlifting.

We are accepting volunteers again, but on a limited basis. Masks will be required to volunteer. If you don't have one we will provide you with one. Social distancing will be adhered to while you are at the closet volunteering and group size is will be limited to reduce density in the space. Gloves are optional.

We need volunteers to help at Penelope's Closet, the thrift store for Penelope House, the local domestic violence shelter for Mobile, Washington, Clarke and Choctaw Counties. Penelope's Closet is located at 2907 Old Shell Road. Volunteering at the closet consists of sorting through donations, hanging donations, putting items on racks, pricing items, assisting customers and various other tasks. The volunteer hours are Tuesday through Saturday 10-4. All proceeds go to support the shelter.

We need 4 or 5 guys to help move our transitional housing clients from time to time. They are not big moves. Sometimes we need a washer and dryer moved to another apartment or a chest of drawers. We also need some one that has a truck to haul the items from one apartment to another. It wouldn't be a far drive. Usually, it's within the same apartment complex. Heavy furniture and pickup weight of over 20 ponds is necessary.

We are looking for volunteers 16 and up who can drive themselves to our shelter to take care of our children while their parent is in group counseling or parenting classes. The volunteer must be able to drive themselves here since it is in a secret location. The volunteer must also fill out a volunteer application and come in to do an orientation that lasts approximately 30 minutes. For any one 18 and older a background clearance is done during orientation.

The Dumas Wesley Community Center's transitional housing program, the Baldwin Family Village (BFV), is located in Fairhope, Alabama. The program provides 12 months of housing stability and wrap-around services for up to 100 women and children annually. BFV seeks to break the cycle of homelessness and help women and children re-establish and maintain self-sufficiency by focusing on accountability, case management, life skills and behavior modification.

Volunteers are needed to become meal sponsors to provide a dinner for single women and women with children experiencing homelessness. Meal sponsors can sign up for one day or multiple days throughout the year.

Meal Sponsor Information
1. Sign up to donate a meal here.
2. Plan to bring a meal that will feed 25-30 people (women and children)
3. Please note your menu items on the meal site in order to avoid duplicate meals during the week
4. We ask that you consider providing a well-rounded meal consisting of a protein, vegetable or fruit, and a starch
5. Please do not bring any food products containing nuts
6. You are welcome to bring disposable plates and utensils
7. Meals must be prepared and fully cooked offsite
8. Volunteers, please deliver your meal by 4:30 p.m. Dinner will be served from 5:00 p.m. 6:00 p.m. Please contact Amy Abernathy for inquiries about meal deliveries prior to 4:30 p.m.

o All meal sponsors must sign a confidentiality waiver
o In order to respect the diversity of residents, discussions of faith and religion should be initiated by our residents
o Please do not provide any kind of financial assistance for residents
o Residents should never solicit financial assistance from meal sponsors. If a meal sponsor is solicited for assistance, please immediately notify Baldwin Family Village staff

We are looking for a volunteer to help a resident finish up a sewing project. It would include taking the pieces home and finishing them on a sewing machine. 

The Little Sisters of the Poor is a home for the elderly poor located in midtown Mobile. We are a non-profit and rely on generous volunteers to help accomplish our mission of loving service to the aging. We appreciate your help!

*Orientation:

All new volunteers need to schedule a 30-minute orientation and tour of the Home with the Volunteer Coordinator before or on the day of their first service. 

*Dress code:

YES: Pants, closed-toed shoes, sleeved and full-length shirts, knee-length skirts, or dresses are all acceptable.

NO: Please do not wear shorts, tank tops, cropped shirts, very tight clothing, or very baggy clothing.

Volunteers must be 18 or older or accompanied by a chaperone.

We are looking for volunteers to help our medical and administrative staff members with filing, making copies, and other office tasks.

Volunteers should be able to commit to spending 2 to 3 hours at the Home helping once a week (Monday - Friday) between 9 AM and 3 PM.

We are flexible and can discuss other arrangements (i.e. more hours or a different frequency)

We are looking for musically talented individuals to play or sing for the elderly in our home. This could be weekly or monthly, or bi-weekly.

We need puppy bathers every single day! Wear something that can get wet. Please let us know you are coming. 

We have puppies that need a bath twice a week so we need a lot of help. We don't have many sinks so we can only use a few people at a time so please let us know when you can come.

We need people who can play with our dogs and walk them after they have breakfast, from 10am and noon, and after their naps from 2:30 pm until 5:30 pm Monday through Saturday.  Please wear long pants and shoe with closed toes.

Assists with various events throughout the year that raise awareness about homelessness and raise funds for FPCA programs that help. Tasks are fun and varied and include making signs, comparison shopping for products and services or setting up for the event.
