We need some volunteers (ages 16 and up) to come out on Sat 9/20, 9am-noon to assist with setting up a few things for our Giant Fall Rummage Sale. We will move some light boxes, roll out some clothes racks, get various areas ready to go for this fundraiser. When we finish you can walk dogs or pet the kitties if you want to! (we should finish before 12). If you sign up just sign in in the front office and then come to the warehouse and ask for Peggy. This is a rain or shine event.

What’s a Shelter Helper?
Stop by anytime you have 2 hours to spare, just say you're here to be a shelter helper! Shelter Helpers are the backbone of our daily operations. By tackling tasks like laundry, dishes, and general tidying, you free up staff to focus on animal care — and you make the shelter a cleaner, more comfortable place for our furry friends.

What You’ll Do:

Wash and dry animal bedding, fold and organizing towels, and blankets

Wash and sanitize food/water bowls and toys

Sweep, mop, and tidy common areas as needed

Restock supplies and keep workspaces organized

Pitch in wherever a helping hand is needed

Qualifications:

Comfortable working around dogs and cats but not necessarily with them (if you don't want to)

Willing to get a little messy (laundry and dishes can be a splash zone!)

Able to lift light to moderate loads of laundry and supplies

Reliable, self-motivated, and able to work independently or with a team

Flexible with tasks — needs can change daily

Our volunteers are a vital part of our hospice team. Our patients and families connect with our volunteers on a deeper level as they open up their hearts to our volunteers who are compassionate with a servants heart. Visiting with these patients can minimize loneliness and provide them with a sense of belonging through fellowship. These volunteers can provide companionship and share interests, engage in games with the patients, read to the patients, journal, write letters to our patients and families, card making, provide a helping hand and a listening ear, provide caregiver relief as the family is able to have some free time to run errands, light housework, and many more tasks! Our volunteers truly make a huge impact on our families and patients. Volunteers make their own schedule and can volunteer as little or as often as possible. Administrative volunteers serve as a huge helping hand to the office staff with clerical tasks such as answering phones, mailings, helping make marketing goodie bags, making admission packets, filing and organizing in the office, writing cards and letters to our patients and bereaved families, helping with event planning, phone calls to patients, etc. We are looking for volunteers in the area for our Daphne, AL location. Administrative volunteers can make their own schedule and volunteer as often or as little as possible. Volunteer Orientation Video

An education event in the beautiful Bellingrath Gardens. The event will feature an opportunity to cruise Fowl River on the historic Delta Explorer and experience  interactive exhibits & activities  including getting up close and personal with native birds of prey, building a floating mini raft, learning about sea turtles, bees and coastal coral reefs and so many other offerings.

RTSA is looking for individuals or teams that are skilled in constructing accessibility ramps. This support will be offered throughout our footprint of Choctaw, Clarke, Mobile, and Washington counties. Please indicate which county you would like to provide services.

This project supports veterans, senior citizens, people living with disabilities, and senior parent households.

Volunteers needed to hold signs by the street and help residents collect tips! Mulherin will be there part of the day (10am to 3pm), but the event lasts all day from 8am to 8pm. Become an Adoption Advocate – Change a Dog’s Life from Anywhere!

What’s an Adoption Advocate?
As an Adoption Advocate, you’ll select one dog — or a small handful — to champion. You’ll visit the shelter to meet them, learn their personality, and gather photos or videos. Then, from home or on the go, you’ll create engaging posts, write heartfelt bios, and share their story across socials, community groups, and other online platforms to connect them with potential adopters.

What You’ll Do:

Visit the shelter to meet and photograph your chosen dog(s)

Write engaging bios that capture their personality

Share updates to keep interest alive until they’re adopted

Stay informed on daily adoptions by keeping up with our Facebook and Adoptable page

Qualifications:

Must be comfortable and active on socials

Cleaning Support Volunteer
Reports to: Kennel Staff II or Training Staff

As a Cleaning Support Volunteer, you’ll work alongside the kennel team to maintain clean, safe, and sanitary conditions throughout the shelter. A well-maintained environment helps reduce illness, keeps pets comfortable, and ensures animals are presented in their best light to potential adopters.

Location: Mobile County Animal Shelter
Time Commitment:

Shifts are approximately 2 or 3 hours long

Weekdays: Between 8:00 AM and 4:00 PM

Weekends: Between 7:00 AM and 2:00 PM

Shifts are flexible - coordinate with the Volunteer Coordinator or training kennel staff.

Assist with routine cleaning and sanitation tasks

Help maintain a healthy and presentable shelter environment

Check in with staff at the beginning of each shift for assigned tasks

Sanitize surfaces and areas within the adoption center following established protocols

Clean food/water dishes, perform laundry, and assist in feeding areas

Mark off completed tasks and communicate notes or needs to staff

Ability to follow instructions and adhere to safety and cleaning protocols

Able to lift between 10–40 pounds

Comfortable walking, bending, stooping, and standing for extended periods

Friendly and respectful when interacting with staff, visitors, and other volunteers

Committed to supporting the shelter’s mission and policies

Must be at least 18 years old with adult signed waiver 

The Dream Court Tennis Clinic is a class designed to provide tennis instruction to people with intellectual and physical disabilities. As a volunteer you will gain hands on experience in working one on one with an assigned athlete. You will hold the title of a coach buddy. Your job will be just that, be a coach by helping your athlete follow the instruction given by the coach leader and be a buddy by providing a positive and encouraging attitude that helps boost the athlete up. Your tasks combined are sure to enhance the overall experience and success of the athlete.

Looking for a great way to give back? We are looking for volunteers for the Little Sisters of the Poor Lawn Party which will be held on October 19th. The Lawn Party is our biggest fundraiser of the year that helps support our mission of loving service to the elderly poor. It is a day filled with family fun, carnival food, games, raffles, music and fun! T-shirts are provided for volunteers. There are 2-hour, 4-hour, and all-day shifts available. Community Lunch is a weekly meal provided free of charge to the families we serve and allows us to stay connected with and minister to the adults in our community. We begin serving at noon and typically serve approximately 60-80 individuals. We are usually finished serving by 12:45pm. Volunteers generally arrive around 11:30 to set up and once they are done serving the meal, many enjoy sitting and eating with our folks and even praying with them. We serve a meal to 55+ middle and high school students each Wednesday evening as part of our Teen Night Bible study! Monday Movers help us pick up thrift store donations for our thrift store - Dwell Goods! We need volunteers every Monday beginning at 11am. Larger vehicles, trucks, and trailers for pick-ups are most helpful, but not required. We are most in need of hands to help move and organize! Volunteers can expect to serve a few hours until early afternoon.

Volunteers are needed to assist with school-age children in Dumas Wesley Community Center's After School Achievement Program. Volunteers will be responsible for, but not limited to: watching over the children, homework assistance, helping with daily activities, special events, and light organizing/cleaning. The program operates on the calendar year of the Mobile County Public School System. This volunteer need may also qualify for course credit or a student internship.

Volunteers can choose a day(s) Monday through Friday, from 3:30-5:30 p.m. Volunteers may commit to one day a week or several days a week. All volunteers have to complete a background check and attend orientation before volunteering. Volunteers are needed throughout the school year, except June and July

Our veteran patients that are currently on Hospice enjoy the camaraderie and the bond that only those with military histories share and pay tribute to others who have served our county.  These volunteers may provide social visits, take part in special pinning ceremonies, or interview and document veterans military stories through the veterans history project.  These visits would be made in the patients homes in Mobile County.       

Would you like to bring a smile to our patients and families on hospice and provide a lasting impact? Please consider joining our special projects group to make different crafts/cards/items and hand them out to our patients and families when complete. Just a small gesture like this can really go a long way especially in times like this when they need it most. Lets be a light in this world together!

Regular visits from Hospice Companions can minimize patient loneliness and isolation through fellowship.  These volunteers provide companionship to the patients and relief to their caregivers by offering a supportive presence, a listening ear and a helping hand. These type of volunteer may provide companionship, care-relief, pet therapy, life review, reading to the patient, playing games, writing letters on behalf of patient and many more tasks.  These volunteers are needed in Mobile County.  

If you have ever had a family member on Hospice, you have hopefully seen the impact that wonderful visitors can make on an entire family. 

This volunteer opportunity is great for students looking to build their resumes and get patient experience. Volunteering with patients 1:1  can sometimes be a little daunting, but we work hard to make things really comfortable for everyone! 

At the end of life, comfort is one of Hospice's main goals. If you are great at crafts, sewing, knitting, or crocheting, you can help provide comfort to patients and families who need it greatly!   

Items like lap blankets, fidget blankets, cards, room decorations, scrap booking, and more are needed. Your imagination can run wild because these items can go straight to patients and families to let them know someone cares.  

At the end of life, comfort  is one of our top goals in our Hospice organization. If you enjoy creating art work, painting, sewing, knitting, crocheting, etc. you can help provide comfort to our patients and families! Any items like blankets (or fidget blankets), paintings, any art work or arts & crafts, cards, home/room decor, etc. are needed! Let your unique skills and imagination run wild as your work becomes comfort to our patients and families when they need it most.

At Mobile County Animal Shelter, every dog has a story — and we need caring, creative volunteers to help tell it!

What’s a Dog Bio Writer?
As a Bio Writer, you’ll visit the shelter, meet our adoptable dogs, and get to know their personalities. From silly quirks to heartwarming habits, you’ll turn your observations into engaging bios that showcase each dog’s unique charm and help potential adopters fall in love and get to know them.

What You’ll Do:

Visit the shelter regularly to meet and interact with dogs in adoption

Learn about each dog’s personality, likes, and needs

Take or gather photos that match your bio

Write clear, engaging, and accurate bios for our website, Facebook, and Adoptables 

Update bios when needed (e.g., new skills learned, behavior changes, or milestones)

Qualifications:

Comfortable interacting with dogs of all sizes and energy levels **Will do Dog walker training**

Good writing and storytelling skills

Reliable and detail-oriented

Willing to commit to complete bios promptly

Able to work independently and follow guidelines for accuracy and tone

Ronald McDonald Family Rooms are an extension of Ronald McDonald House Charities of Mobile, Alabama, a bit of home within the walls of USA Children’s and Women’s Hospital.

The Family Rooms are located on the 3rd and 4th floors in the pediatric tower, and serve as a place of peaceful respite, possess a warm and friendly atmosphere for families to use while remaining merely steps away from their child’s bedside. 

RONALD MCDONALD FAMILY ROOM VOLUNTEER DUTIES 

Participate in our pop tab program by collecting pull tabs from aluminum cans and donating to Ronald McDonald House. The program raises approximately $3 – $4 thousand dollars each year and goes toward the operating costs of Ronald McDonald House of Mobile. • Do you have access to a commercial kitchen? Become a member of our casserole club...
This club will help our house by providing freezer ready meals which will be warmed and served to our families as needed when restaurant catered meals are not available.

RMHC of Mobile relies upon donations of household items and supplies to provide the comforts of home to our families in our 38 guestroom Home and our two Family Rooms located inside USA Children’s & Women’s Hospital. RECEPTIONIST  Monday-Friday  4:30PM-8:00PM  (Hours can be flexible and you can volunteer one day a week or as many as you would like).

Responsibilities to include answering phone calls and directing callers to the correct guest room or staff member, answering the doorbell (our house is under a secure system for entry), checking to make sure that anyone entering our house has the correct wrist band upon entry and if not, directing them to the house manager for information regarding how to become a guest.  Light clerical work during slow periods and assisting staff with small projects such as addressing and mailing envelopes or stuffing our "goodie bags" to be given to our new families upon check-in.

We are looking for individuals willing to assist in our non-traditional shelter operations as needed.  Non-traditional shelters may be warming stations/shelters, cooling stations/shelter, and Safer Places (State of Alabama designated sites for severe weather).  Interested volunteers would work under a shelter manager and will assist with any needs that may arise (set up, registration, food service, site supervision, volunteer coordination, etc).   Hours would be flexible and would likely include overnight shifts.

Shelter occupants would include unhoused individuals, persons without adequate heating/air conditioning, persons medically and other vulnerable populations.

Participants would need their own transportation, a valid driver'ss license, and potentially pass a background check as the need involves serving vulnerable populations (including children) and multiple sites in Mobile County and may include some virtual activities.

Mobile County EMA is looking for individuals in the Mobile, AL area who are willing to help our agency in assisting the citizens of Mobile.  Activities will be varied and require various physical activities and abilities.  It may be answering phones, loading water and food into vehicles, working in our warehouse or a donated goods warehouse, and managing various volunteer operations and many more possibilities.

Persons interested would be encouraged to participate in trainings and exercises to achieve a basic level of competency in emergency management practices and tactics.  Trainings would be free of charge and would be virtual and in-person.  A simple application and liability release are required.  Hours are flexible and would primarily be M-F, 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM in Blue Skies (Day-to-Day) and in Grey Skies (Hazzard/Disaster times) it would be 4, 6, 8, and 12 hour shifts based on need and your willingness to participate.

A Guardianship is a legal relationship in which a Guardian is appointed by Mobile County Probate Court to make decisions for those incapacitated or unable to communicate decisions concerning their health or safety. The guardian does not handle any financial responsibilities. A Conservator is appointed by the court to handle these matters.

The Volunteer Guardian Program (VGP) is the last line of defense for vulnerable citizens - with no appropriate family or friends - against homelessness and worsening quality of life.  The VGP is administered by the Via Health, Fitness and Enrichment Center, and partners with the Mobile County Probate Court, the Mobile County Commission, the City of Mobile and community referral agencies.  Mobile County’s VGP was introduced by Probate Court Judge Don Davis in 2010, and the program remains the first and only of its kind in our state. 

The life-changing decisions Volunteer Guardians make for their wards impact basic needs (food and housing), medical treatments or care and end-of-life care.  Guardians attend court hearings, file paperwork, coordinate with other agencies to obtain needed services, shop or take  their ward shopping,  attend doctors’ appointments if needed and stay connected to ensure wards’ health and safety.

Since 2010, VGP has recruited, trained and matched hundreds of community volunteers to serve as Guardians for these special people. Currently, there are more than 65 amazing Volunteer Guardians active in the program.  They range in age from 21 to 65, and include college students, homemakers, nurses, pastors and preachers, Certified Nursing Assistants, social workers and even a retired FBI official. 

The Via Center is seeking caring and committed volunteers to become a part of the program.

The Road To Recovery Volunteer Driver provides people with transportation to and from their cancer-related medical appointments. Drivers donate their time to help people with cancer get the lifesaving treatments they need.

Volunteers choose the rides that work best for their schedule. Most rides are scheduled during the weekday between 7am and 7pm. The American Cancer Society asks volunteers to commit to a minimum of 2 rides per month.
