Administrative volunteers promote hospice care by helping perform clerical assignments in an office setting. These assignments can include helping process mail outs, filing, data entry, answering phones, restocking supplies, making packets, plus many other tasks. Your office contribution does help with our patients and families that we serve and you skills are always needed.

VITAS Volunteer orientation is provided free of charge to help you learn the skills required to be an outstanding Office Volunteer. Volunteers are needed between the hours of 8am and 5pm, Monday through Friday.

VITAS Healthcare is looking for musical volunteers who are able to play musical instruments and/or sing for hospice patients living at home, in the hospital or in long term care facilities.

Sometimes what a hospice patient needs most is a way to express feelings without talking. By playing or singing their favorite song or hymns, VITAS music volunteers help patients and families reconnect with feelings and memories that can bring about a sense of peace and happiness.

VITAS provides training on how to work with people at the end of life. The volunteer provides the talent, compassion and time. Assignments are made according to the volunteer’s time and location.

VITAS Healthcare is seeking volunteers to join the volunteer "Proactive Calls Team".

What are "Proactive calls"? Volunteers make phone calls to home bound patients or their care givers every week on Thursday to "tuck" them in for the weekend. You can help make sure that our patients have enough supplies and medications to see them through the weekend. Calls can be placed from your home or one of our three offices across Brevard County.

You can help make sure our patients receive their requested items in a timely manner. This is our way of extending comfort and care while we are not in the home.

VITAS Healthcare wants to enlist your services to care for terminally ill veterans living at home and in nursing homes, assisted living communities and medical centers. Be all You Can Be as a Veteran Volunteer

VITAS Veteran Volunteers may or may not be U.S. military veterans themselves. They are trained to meet the specific needs of terminally ill veterans living in their own homes, nursing homes, assisted living communities and veterans’ medical centers.

Our Veteran Volunteers visit terminally ill veterans; drive and/or accompany a veteran to appointments, shopping and other events; help a veteran apply for benefits or learn about available assistance; help replace lost or stolen military medals by contacting appropriate agencies; listen to life stories or record or videotape a veteran’s reminiscences; telephone veterans to ask how they are doing; attend or help plan activities celebrating Memorial Day and Veteran’s Day; educate veteran’s groups about hospice services by speaking at their meetings.

Volunteer orientation teaches the skills required to be a hospice volunteer. VITAS Veteran Volunteers are further trained to meet specific end-of-life needs of veterans to improve their quality of life. Time and dates are ongoing and flexible. Orientation and training to be a VITAS Veteran Volunteer is free.

Veterans enjoy receiving visitors-people who will listen to their fading memories and reminiscences. Some veterans need transportation to appointments, shopping and other events. Others may need help applying for benefits or researching other kinds of assistance. VITAS Veteran Volunteers learn to help.

Show a veteran that he or she is not forgotten.

VITAS Healthcare invites friendly and well-behaved pets to join the Paw Pals SM program, in which animals and their humans learn how to visit patients at the end of their life. A registered VITAS Paw Pals SM visitor can offer comfort, bring back memories, encourage activity and provide unconditional love to VITAS patients. Your visits leave behind memories of you and your pet, and rekindle thoughts of other pets.

Pet visits can sometimes reach a patient when no one else can. Our Paw Pals SM brightens the day for everyone when they visit.

All kinds of pets are invited to join the VITAS Paw Pals Club.

Paw Pals SM must be well-groomed, at least one- year old, and have up-to-date health records.

In orientation classes they are trained in listening skills, family dynamics and the right words to say to patients and their loved ones at the end of life.

Visits made by our volunteers not only help each patient, but the families are truly touched as well. The shortest conversation can have the largest impact. VITAS volunteers provide relief care for caregivers, offer companionship for the patient, run errands and help in other meaningful ways.

A Memory Bear, sewn by a volunteer with compassion and love, is a forever friend who can ease a hurting heart after the death of a VITAS hospice patient.

Sewn from a patient’s favorite pair of jeans, sports jersey, dress, work uniform, or shirt, a Memory Bear can evoke the closeness of a loved one, bring a smile to someone in distress, or offer a sense of security to a child who feels alone after the loss of a parent or sibling.
