Who We Are
No one dreams of being homeless. However, due to economic circumstances, loss of job, mental illnesses, addictions or poor choices, this nightmare becomes a hopeless reality for many. That’s where Waterfront Rescue Mission comes in. The Mission offers hope to those in need.
The ultimate goal of Waterfront Rescue Mission is to look beyond circumstances and stereotypes to address a person’s individual spiritual and physical needs by providing tools and services that bring about positive and lasting life change.
What We Do
Homelessness is a complex problem. The circumstances that bring people to the Mission’s doors are nearly as diverse as the people themselves. Some have lost everything, including their dignity. Some have endured abuse and violence since childhood. Some have succumbed to depression and addiction.
Waterfront Rescue Mission provides:
Emergency Shelter - Men who are emergency shelter guests receive a safe place to sleep, a nutritious breakfast, lunch and dinner, hot showers and fresh clothing.
Addiction Recovery Program - Our highly structured program curriculum, teaching, individual, group counseling, and vocational transition opportunities are firmly rooted in the Gospel. These programs offer opportunities for personal and spiritual enrichment and are designed to help men to deal with the life-dominating issues that have led them into their current situation.
Veterans Affairs Care Program - At the Mission’s Veteran’s Care Program, homeless veterans work with a representative from the local VA to secure eligible benefits such as pension, housing, and medical assistance. But getting benefits takes time. Once they enter the program, veterans who are eligible for VA benefits can stay up to three months at Waterfront.
Respite Care - The Respite Care Dorm offers sick and injured homeless men a safe, quite place to heal. Respite Care has hospital beds and a handicap accessible bathroom and shower.
